Chartered Benefit Consultant

Why become a Chartered Benefit Consultant™ (CBC™)?

Okay! You've sold a few Medical Savings Accounts before 2004 year; you studied the new HSA legislation contained in the Medicare Reform Act passed in 2003 as well as all the IRS regulations and notices pertaining to the HSA. You're a solid believer in health care "consumerism" and encourage your clients and prospects to get into a consumer-driven health plan (CDHP) every opportunity you get. You know how to explain the program. So why should you take the Chartered Benefit Consultant (CBC™) advanced designation course?

There are a number of reasons:

  • Recognition: Ask yourself this question. If you were in the market to buy a large life insurance package to protect your family and/or your business from loss and you could choose to deal with an agent with a CLU designation or an agent without any designation, all other things being equal, who would you be likely to deal with? An increasing number of carrier field reps and brokerage agencies have joined with CBC™ sponsor, the National Association of Alternative Benefit Consultants, and its allied organizations, to heavily promote the designation course. The CBC™ is rapidly becoming recognized as THE ONLY designation labeling its holder as an expert in the CDHP market place.
  • Sales Opportunity: Once obtaining the CBC™ designation, the holder is listed on the NAABC-sponsored "Chartered Benefit Consultant Directory" which is linked to the HSA sites of the United States Treasury Department, CashDoctor and others for the sole purpose of facilitating the public’s ability to find an expert in the CDHP market. The public can then be assured that the agent they choose has demonstrated a high degree of expertise in CDHP.
  • Training: The CBC™ advanced designation course offers THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE GENERIC TRAINING in the rapidly growing CDHP market available anywhere! The level of CDHP training received in the CBC™ course matches that received in any other professional designation course for its field of concentration. Most of the first CBC™ graduates were already fairly well versed in CDHP but here are just a few of the unsolicited comments they have offered after taking the course:

"Thank you for the CBC™ course. I found this to be a very good program that offers flexibility, great information, excellent course work and is very organized. Having participated in other professional designation courses, I found the CBC™ to be the most practical and useful. .The course makes it very easy to present and understand the "value" of CDHP… I feel that the CBC™ designation should be used in every agency and brokerage as a training tool and requirement for it's agents and representatives. Our firm will be enrolling all new representatives in the CBC™ program in the future. I cannot think of a more valuable and affordable means of training agents. Great Job!”
Joseph A. Morris, Indiana (October 2003 Graduate)

"What a great class! For those of us active in marketing health insurance, this is the most exciting times in my ten years in the business!"
Patrick Custenborder, Ohio (January 2004 Graduate)

"I enjoyed the class and learned a lot. Thanks".
R. Douglas Hartley, Colorado (January 2004 Graduate)

"I attended your course in Houston. I am very excited about the new opportunities that this knowledge offers me. Everyone I have talked to is anxious to have a quote done. The back ground information and out of the box thinking will set me apart from most agents in my area. Thank you for all your work. “
Tammy Rimbey, Texas (May 2004 Graduate)

"Thanks for all the solid work that has gone into this program. I believe the material presented has provided me many tools that I can take into the marketplace and help my clients and me at the same time. I gained knowledge to benefit my clients and tools to use to lower my insurance costs and provide for my own well being better."
Currie Bishop, Texas (July 2004 Graduate)

"By the way, great course! I came into it with only a working knowledge of HSA plans. Now I feel ready to explain much of what I learned."
Richard Bronstein, California (July 2004 Graduate)

“I thought the course was terrific. I am already incorporating my new knowledge and am offering HRA quotes to customers.”
Laura Dirlam, Maryland (September 2004 Graduate)

“Thank you for your help and the class was very beneficial to me and my co-workers.”
Josh Harbuck, Texas (September 2004 Graduate)

“Just wanted to thank John and your office and express my satisfaction with the course
matter and instructor of the class”.

Bob Silverman, Maryland (September 2004 Graduate)

Another CBC™ student from September 2004 is also an account executive who does “Roll Out” presentations for his carrier/employer:

“I believe my company does a good job in explaining these new products but, while we bring our brokers from zero to “par” on the subject, the CBC™ course goes way beyond par”

And finally, here is the one testimonial that says it all – for brokers, carrier reps, MGA/GAs —anyone interested in production:

" Two weeks ago I received a call from a leading law firm in (my state) requesting my firm's assistance and input on their current group benefit offering. The firm has 80 employees and was struggling, like most employers, with the rising cost of their group health plan. Here is the scenario:

  • 80 full time employees
  • Only 37 participants in the group health plan (below the 50% participation level)
  • They received a 39% increase from their existing carrier (current premium was $24,000 per month renewing at around $32,000 per month)
  • They were interested in an MRA/HRA plan with a Defined Contribution arrangement
  • They went to the Department of Treasury Website for more information on HRA's
  • Went to the Resources section and found the NAABC link, ultimately finding us as a Resource and Specialist on HRA's AND HSA's according to the NAABC link.

As a result of their search and our CBC™ designation and the credible referral from the (DOT), our firm wrote the case and saved our client $200K in annual premium, obtained 100% participation, added an MRA, FSA with DCC, a new medical plan, voluntary dental and vision, obtained Broker of Record on the Group Life and LTD plan and was hired to administer the HIPAA compliance requirements. Ultimately, our firm earned a reputable law firm as a new client, earned in excess of $30K in new commissions & fees and have been asked by our new client to do workshops for their clients on topics such as CDHP's, HIPAA Compliance and Employee Benefits. Our potential referral income is $100K in new revenues from our new client's referrals and the testimonial letter our client has given to us. I must say that the DOT (US Treasury) link combined with the NAABC website recommending a CBC™ as a trusted resource for HSA, HRA and CDHP plan implementation has proven to our firm to be a valuable tool. Besides the obvious, I must also thank God for this blessing. It couldn't have happened at a better time for us."

Having let our past students speak for us, now it's your turn. Is the CBC™ designation for you?
